Smoothie bowls seem to be at every healthy inspired cafe from Bali to Texas. While they are so freaking delicious and can be loaded with nutrients, they may not be in line with all of your goals.

A few options to consider if craving a smoothie bowl and looking to reduce the spike in blood sugars:


1) opt for no granola
2) choose a berry base rather than banana
3) pair with a healthy fat & protein 
4) DIY

Chocolate Plant-based Smoothie Bowl

  • A LOT of kale (~3 cups)

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • 1/4 cup berries

  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 square/ chunk 100% dark chocolate

  • 1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds

  • 1 serving plant-based protein (used Vega's organic all-in-one coconut almond)

  • water, almond milk, & ice
