Adding cauliflower to a smoothie is a convenient way to add more cruciferous vegetables to one’s diet. Why do we want to add more cruciferous veggies to our diet?
Cruciferous vegetables contain compounds that provide the liver with what it needs to get rid of toxins. Yay! When these veggies are chopped or chewed, the phytonutrients become active and can change the way estrogen is metabolized or broken down in the body. That’s why maybe you’ve read or heard that eating these vegetables is associated with the decreased risk of hormone or estrogen related cancers such as breast and uterine cancer.
Eating these vegetables either raw, lightly sauteed, or steamed is best to retain the most nutrients.
I love this combo! Fresh or frozen cherries work well.
1 cup cherries
1 cup cauliflower
1 cup almond milk
1 Tbsp coconut oil
Protein powder or collagen of choice (I used PaleoThin Grass-fed beef protein powder)
1.5 cups ice (if you’re using frozen cauliflower and frozen cherries, you may not need as much)
Enjoy!
